Deco Cassette Replacement Instructions

Installation:
First Identify your board style. There are 2 types OLDER and NEWER. The New style is a smaller board set that measures about 14" x 8" The older board set is about 10" tall x about 14" wide. The older board has pcb's labeled ending in 3 e.g. RMS3 The newer ends in 8. Carefully note where the notch is on the old bios eprom before removing it. It is very easy to plug it in backwards if you just look at the board. If you do you will need a new chip.

Newer Style:
The bios chip is the 24 pin eprom by itself. It installs on the board labled RMS8. The bios is below dip switch 1.

Older Style:
Remove the 2 old bios chips. They are on the DSP3 board labeled p0 and p1. The bios chip installes in place of p1. P1 is the one that's more towards the center of the board.

Both:
The dongle board replaces whatever dongle board you have installed. Where ever you mount the board make sure it's not sitting on anything metal. I mounted mine on top of my old dongle and just wrapped a piece of electrical tape around the two dongles to hold them together. The connector is keyed and your ribbon cable should be as well so it should not be possible to plug the dongle in backwards. Note 1. some games use 2 buttons, while your cabinet may have only 1. On my cabinet the cabinet the button was wired to the control panel I just needed to install a button. Note 2. Some games use the coin lockout and some do not. It may be neccessary for you to disable the lock out on your coin mech to insert a coin on some games.

You can leave the cassette hooked up or remove it. It won't try to use it.

Troubleshooting:
If you don't get a blue screen with "deco cassette system" on boot then there is something wrong with the board or the bios chip. Try putting the old bios chip in to make sure you get the blue bios screen to come up. If you get the blue menu screen but there are no games listed the problem is with the dongle or ribbon cable. Try reseating the cable or a different cable.

Operation:
From the menu select a game using up and down, press start 1 to select the game. The game will load an instruction screen then load the cassette data through the dongle interface instead of from the cassette. To return to the menu hold start 1 and start 2 while pressing the coin button.

Advanced:
You can set it to skip the menu and autoload a game if you reprogram the dongle. The eprom closest the connector is M0 if you read it and look at the first 512 bytes it's the catalog of games. There are 16 bytes in a row. The first row is a header the second row is game #0, etc. Byte 8(starting with 0) is FF. Change it to the game # you want to autoload and reprogram the chip.
